Tour Description: Located amidst the ruins of the emperor Domitian’s country retreat, the papal palaces at Castel Gandolfo have been a summer retreat for the pope since the 17th century, being officially afforded extraterritorial status as property of the Holy See by way of the Lateran Treaty in 1929. The entire estate is
about 55 hectares in size (11 hectares larger than Vatican City), all built above the gorgeous Lake Gandolfo
which you will see shimmering beneath it. After the palaces, you will visit the Vatican gardens with a minibus and use of headphone. Option to be taken to one of the area’s loveliest wineries surrounded by the Castelli Romani vineyards where you will taste a variety of specially selected wines as you nibble on appetizers of local salamis, cheeses, bruschetta and olive oil. And there’s no need to worry about how to take your favorite wines or olive oils home with you. Our wineries can organize the shipping of any items purchased to wherever you want in the world. But, make sure you save room for lunch! We have an authentic, mouthwatering Italian meal at one of our favorite restaurants waiting for you at the end of your tour.
